Volleyball Uniforms: Men’s, Women’s Modest & Hijab-Friendly Options

Group of people in a sportswear shop examining volleyball uniforms displayed on racks; banner reads 'Volleyball Uniforms Fits for UAE'.

Volleyball is widely played in UAE schools, clubs and community leagues, often by mixed squads with very different preferences for fit and coverage. A good kit programme gives every player a uniform she or he is comfortable in, without the team looking like three different sides.

This guide explains the options for volleyball uniforms in the UAE: jerseys and shorts, sleeve lengths, the libero jersey, numbering, and how the same design is built in men’s, women’s modest and hijab-friendly fits. See our custom volleyball kits or the wider sports uniforms hub.

What this guide covers

The core kit: jersey and shorts

The core kit is a sublimated jersey and shorts with numbers, plus optional knee pads and warm-ups. Sublimation prints the design into the fabric, so stripes, gradients, names and numbers add no extra layers to the garment. Our garment printing page explains the method.

Jersey

Volleyball jerseys are usually cut closer to the body than football shirts, so that loose fabric does not touch the net or get in the way of an arm swing. Choose between a fitted and a regular cut, and between a crew, V or raised neckline. Lightweight knitted polyester is the usual base fabric; our fabric suggestions are advice rather than performance promises.

Shorts and bottoms

Options range from short fitted shorts to mid-thigh and knee-length shorts, with full-length leggings or loose trousers for players who want more coverage. Whatever the length, check the fit in a deep defensive stance and a dive. Knee pads need to sit securely, whether on bare knees or over leggings.

Sleeve lengths

  • Sleeveless or cap sleeve: maximum shoulder freedom; common in women’s and beach kits.
  • Short sleeve: the standard choice for most school and club teams.
  • Long sleeve: preferred by players who want arm coverage, and by some defenders for floor contact. The sleeve should stay at the wrist with the arms raised to block.

A team can mix sleeve lengths within one design. Some competitions expect a team to look uniform, so check your competition’s current rules if players will wear different sleeve lengths in the same match.

Libero jersey and numbering

Libero contrast jersey

The libero wears a jersey that contrasts clearly with the rest of the team so that officials can identify the player. In practice most teams reverse their own colours, which keeps the design consistent. What counts as sufficient contrast, and how many libero jerseys a team needs, is set by the competition. Check your competition’s rules before approving the artwork.

Numbers and names

Numbers normally appear on the chest and the back, in a colour that contrasts with the jersey. On a heavily patterned design, keep a plain panel behind the number so that it stays legible from the scorer’s table. Permitted number ranges, digit sizes and positions differ between competitions, so confirm them with the organiser. Collect each player’s number and name spelling on the same list as their size.

Three fits, one design

We build the same design in men’s or unisex, women’s modest and Muslim women’s hijab-friendly fits, so the squad looks like one team whatever each player chooses.

  • Men’s or unisex: regular or fitted jersey with shorts.
  • Women’s modest: longer tops, long sleeves where wanted and full-length bottoms. See women’s modest sportswear.
  • Muslim women’s hijab-friendly: long-sleeve jersey, full-length leggings or trousers and a sports hijab in a team colour. See Muslim women’s sportswear.

For modest fits, test the jersey hem and cuffs with both arms raised, check that leggings are opaque when stretched, and make sure the hijab stays in position through a jump and a dive. Our guides to sports hijab coverage, fabric and fit and building a Muslim women’s team kit go into detail. Rules on head coverings, long sleeves and leggings differ between competitions; check your own federation’s or competition’s current rules.

Indoor versus beach

Indoor kit is designed around a hard court and air-conditioning: a closer fit, knee pads and a warm-up layer for the bench. Beach volleyball is played in sun, wind and sand, so teams often choose lighter colours, looser tops and either shorts or full-length bottoms, and long sleeves are a reasonable choice for players who want more cover from the sun.

Beach competitions publish their own uniform rules, which can differ from indoor ones. Tell us where the kit will be used so that fabric and cut can be suggested accordingly. Final specification will be confirmed during quotation.

Ordering for a squad

List every player with fit, top size, bottoms size, number and name, and add libero jerseys and any home and away sets as separate lines. Try sizes at our Jebel Ali showroom first; our guide to running a team kit size try-on day and the article on how to measure for a sizing chart show how to record sizes cleanly. Stored sizes and artwork help when you kit new players or add a second set later.

Mustang recommendation: offer all three fits on the order form from the start, and approve one mock-up that shows the main jersey, the libero jersey and the long-sleeve version together. It is far easier to align colours and number positions at that stage than after the first set has been printed.

  • Jersey cut, neckline and sleeve lengths chosen.
  • Shorts length and full-length options agreed with players.
  • Libero jersey colours checked against competition rules.
  • Number range, size and position confirmed with the organiser.
  • Fit, sizes, numbers and names on one list.
  • Mock-up shows every variant side by side.

Frequently asked questions

Can one volleyball design be made in different fits?

Yes. The same design is built in men’s or unisex, women’s modest and Muslim women’s hijab-friendly fits, and all three can be placed on one order.

Does the libero need a different jersey?

The libero wears a jersey that contrasts with team-mates. Most teams reverse their colours. Check your competition’s rules for the exact requirement.

Can players wear long sleeves, leggings or a hijab in matches?

Rules differ between competitions and change over time. Check your own federation’s or competition’s current rules; we do not make claims about competition legality.

Is the same kit suitable for indoor and beach volleyball?

The design can be shared, but cut, colours and event rules often differ. Tell us where the kit will be used when you request a quotation.

Can we try sizes before ordering?

Yes. Teams can try sizes at our Jebel Ali showroom, and a free sample is provided against a confirmed order (LPO).
