How to Run a Team Kit Size Try-On Day (and Why Our Showroom Makes It Easy)

Hero banner: three people in team uniforms in a showroom, with bold text about 'Team Kit Try-On Size Day Guide' and a blue callout 'Samples, records and fit checks'.

Nothing derails a kit order like wrong sizes. A size chart tells you what a garment measures; it does not tell you how a twelve-year-old goalkeeper or a tall centre wants it to fit. A short, organised try-on day fixes that: every player wears the actual garment, the size is recorded once, and the order goes in clean.

This runbook is for school PE heads, club and academy managers and team administrators in the UAE. It covers what to prepare, how to run the day, and what to check afterwards. It is the approach our school and club kit service is built around.

What this guide covers

Why a try-on day works better than a size chart

Sports kit is cut differently from everyday clothing, and sizes differ between styles. A player who wears a medium T-shirt may need a different size in a fitted jersey or a looser modest cut. Squads in the UAE also cover a wide range of builds and ages, so last season’s list is a poor guide.

A team kit sizing day replaces guesswork with one controlled session. It also settles the details that cause most reprints: the spelling of printed names, shirt numbers and which kit variant each player wants.

Before the day

Arrange a size set

A size set is one garment in every size of the actual kit style, so players try the real fit, not a chart. The sizes offered depend on the style you choose. Final specification will be confirmed during quotation. The simplest way to use one is to bring the squad to our showroom in Jebel Ali, Dubai. If you would prefer to run the session at your own venue, raise it when you request your quotation so the options can be discussed.

Prepare the squad list

Start from the current registration list, not last year’s order. Group players by team or age group and give each group a time slot so that nobody waits long.

Build the order sheet

One spreadsheet, owned by one person, with a row per player. Useful columns are:

  • Player name and team or age group.
  • Kit variant: men’s or unisex, women’s modest, or Muslim women’s hijab-friendly.
  • Top size and sleeve length.
  • Shorts, leggings or trousers size, recorded separately from the top.
  • Additional items such as a sports hijab, socks or a training layer.
  • Printed name, exactly as it should appear.
  • Shirt number.
  • Tried on: yes or no, with the fitter’s initials.
  • Notes, for example goalkeeper kit or a growth allowance.

Our uniform ordering checklist and the size and fit guide help with structuring the sheet.

Tell parents what to expect

For juniors, send a short note before the day: date and time slot, what to wear (light sports clothing, not bulky layers), the kit variants on offer, and a request to confirm the spelling of the printed name. Ask parents to choose the variant at home so that no child is asked in front of team-mates.

On the day

Set up stations

  1. Check-in: find the player on the list and confirm name, team and kit variant.
  2. Tops: try the expected size, then one up or down. Raise both arms and twist to check length and sleeve.
  3. Bottoms: check waist and length in a squat and a lunge.
  4. Recording and sign-off: one person enters the sizes, reads back the printed name and number, and marks the row as tried on.

Keep the fitting and the recording as separate jobs. Fitters who also write things down are where errors begin.

Growth allowance for juniors

Agree a rule before the day and apply it consistently. Many schools record the size that fits now and the size to order as two separate entries, so that the allowance is visible and deliberate. Be more cautious with shorts and trousers than with tops, because an oversized waist is harder to live with than a long sleeve.

Checking modest and hijab-friendly fits

Provide a private fitting area and female staff for players trying women’s modest or hijab-friendly options. Check that sleeves stay at the wrist with the arms raised, that tunic-length tops allow a full stride, that leggings are opaque when stretched and that the sports hijab stays in position when the head is turned. Record the top, bottoms and hijab sizes separately. Our guide to building a Muslim women’s team kit explains each piece, and the women’s modest and Muslim women’s pages show the options.

After the day

  • Reconcile: compare the order sheet with the registration list. Every player should have a row, and every row should be marked as tried on or flagged.
  • Follow up absentees: arrange a second short session or a showroom visit where possible. If a size has to be estimated from measurements, mark it clearly; our article on how to measure for a sizing chart explains what to take.
  • Confirm names and numbers: check for duplicate numbers within a team and send printed-name spellings back to parents or players for a final yes.
  • Decide on spares: whether to add spare kits for late joiners is a club decision; record them as separate rows.
  • Approve: the person with authority signs off the design mock-up and the final sheet together, and one version is sent with the order. Our uniform sampling page explains the sample stage.

Common mistakes

  • Copying sizes from the previous season.
  • Letting players choose by label rather than by how the garment fits.
  • Recording one size for the whole kit when tops and bottoms differ.
  • Leaving out the kit-variant column, then discovering late that some players wanted long sleeves or a hijab.
  • Forgetting specialist kit, such as a goalkeeper or libero jersey.
  • Guessing sizes for absent players without marking them.
  • Circulating several copies of the spreadsheet, so nobody knows which is final.
  • Trying kit on over thick clothing.

Why our showroom makes it easy

Our showroom is in Jebel Ali, Dubai. Bring your squad or class and try sizes in person, with men’s and unisex, women’s modest and Muslim women’s hijab-friendly fits considered in the same visit so that everyone is comfortable. Each player’s size, name and number is logged in one list, ready to become your order and stored for future repeat orders.

Visits are arranged in advance; use the contact page to agree a time. Schools with students joining during the year can ask about later try-ons and repeat orders when requesting a quotation.

Mustang recommendation: give one person ownership of the order sheet from start to finish, and do not send the order until every row is either marked as tried on or clearly flagged as an estimate. Most wrong-size problems trace back to a row nobody checked.

  • One sheet, one owner, one final version.
  • Top, bottoms and additional items sized separately.
  • Kit variant recorded for every player.
  • Printed names and numbers confirmed in writing.
  • Growth allowance applied by rule, not by guess.

Start your kit with us

Every order begins with a free design mock-up and a free sample against your confirmed order (LPO), and your sizes and artwork are stored for repeat orders. Teams and students can try sizes in person at our Jebel Ali showroom before committing. Delivery timelines are confirmed during quotation.

Frequently asked questions

What is a team kit sizing day?

It is a planned session where every player tries on a size set of the actual kit and the sizes, printed names and numbers are recorded on one order sheet.

Where can we try a size set?

At our showroom in Jebel Ali, Dubai. Arrange the visit in advance through the contact page.

How much growth room should juniors have?

There is no single answer. Agree a rule with coaches and parents, record the fitting size and the ordered size separately, and be more cautious with bottoms than with tops.

What about players who miss the day?

Arrange a second session or a showroom visit where possible. If a size is estimated from measurements, flag it on the sheet so the risk is visible before the order is approved.

Can modest and hijab-friendly kits be sized in the same session?

Yes. Men’s and unisex, women’s modest and Muslim women’s hijab-friendly fits can be tried in the same session and placed on one order. Provide a private fitting area and record each piece separately.
