Modest Sportswear for Schools: Inclusive Kit That Performs

More UAE schools want PE and team kit that every student feels comfortable wearing. Modest sportswear makes that possible without compromising performance.
Explore our women’s modest sportswear and school sports kit. This guide shows PE heads and school operations managers how to plan modest sportswear schools UAE families will accept as part of one range, not as a separate add-on.

What makes kit modest
Longer-length tops, looser cuts through the body, and full-length leggings or track pants — all in breathable fabric so that coverage does not have to mean discomfort.
The details matter more than the label. A modest PE top needs enough length to stay down when a student reaches overhead, sleeves that stay at the wrist, and a neckline that does not gape when she bends forward. Bottoms need an opaque fabric and a cut that allows running and jumping without pulling tight.
Because more of the body is covered, fabric choice carries more weight. Our guide to breathable sports fabrics for the UAE climate explains what to look for.
One kit, three fits
We build the same team design in men’s/unisex, women’s modest and Muslim women’s hijab-friendly fits, so a whole class or squad matches while each student wears what suits them.
The principle is one range, not two. Every option shares the same colours, crest position and fabric family, appears on the same order form and is described in the same uniform policy. A student choosing a long-sleeve top should look like part of the team, not like an exception to it.
House colours and crest
Every piece carries your house colours and school crest, with a free design mock-up before you commit. Ask for the mock-up to show the standard and modest versions side by side, so governors, staff and parent representatives can see that they match.
Options table: standard and modest
| Item | Standard option | Modest option |
|---|---|---|
| PE top | Short-sleeve T-shirt or polo | Long-sleeve top with longer body and looser cut |
| PE bottoms | Shorts | Full-length leggings worn under shorts or a skort, or loose track pants |
| Team match jersey | Short-sleeve jersey | Long-sleeve jersey in the same design, or a matching base layer under the standard jersey |
| Team match bottoms | Match shorts | Longer shorts with leggings in the team colour, or track pants |
| Headwear | Cap for outdoor lessons | Pull-on sports hijab in the school colour, with or without a cap |
| Tracksuit | Jacket and track pants | Same items, with a longer-length jacket |
| Swimwear | Standard swimsuit or swim shorts | Full-coverage swimsuit with swim hijab, in swim fabric |
Allow students to combine items across the two columns. Many choose a standard top with leggings, or a long-sleeve top with standard track pants. The school sportswear category shows the garment types available, and our sports hijab guide covers styles, fit and care for headwear.
Sizing and parent communication
Bring students to our Jebel Ali showroom for a size-set try-on, and we can hold sizes so pupils collect kit as they need it through the term. Trying garments on matters more for modest fits, because sleeve and body length are as important as chest size.
Sizing tips
- Check sleeve length with arms raised and body length when bending forward.
- Size leggings and track pants by leg length as well as waist.
- Agree one growth allowance for the year and apply it to every student.
- Record the fit chosen, not only the size, so reorders are correct.
The size and fit guide lists the measurements to take for students who cannot attend a try-on.
Telling parents
Most confusion comes from options that parents did not know existed. Show every item on one order form, with a picture or mock-up of each. Describe garments by what they are, such as long-sleeve PE top or full-length leggings, so no family has to ask for a special arrangement. In a multi-nationality school community, send the information in the languages your parents read, and say clearly that all listed options are official school kit.
Swim kit in brief
Swimming is where students most often opt out if no suitable kit is offered. A full-coverage swimsuit with a swim hijab, made in proper swim fabric, lets them take part. Everyday leggings and cotton T-shirts become heavy in water and are often not accepted by pool operators, so they are not a substitute.
Keep swim options in the school colour and check the pool operator’s own rules on swimwear before you finalise the list. See our team swimwear page for the range.
Policy wording tips and checklist
A clear uniform policy does as much for inclusion as the garments themselves.
- List every option by name and state that all of them are approved school kit.
- Say that students may choose any listed option without giving a reason or seeking permission.
- Set one colour rule for base layers, leggings and hijabs.
- State safety requirements plainly, such as pull-on hijabs with no pins for PE.
- Apply the same standards of fit and condition to every option.
- Review the wording with parent representatives before it is published.
This is practical guidance, not legal advice. Schools should confirm current uniform and inclusion requirements with their regulator or the relevant education authority, and check competition kit rules with the league or federation concerned.
Mustang recommendation: design the standard and modest options at the same time, in the same fabrics and colours, and approve them from one mock-up. Schools that add modest items later usually end up with shades and crests that do not quite match. Fabric recommendations are advice for UAE conditions, not a performance guarantee. Final specification will be confirmed during quotation.

Frequently asked questions
Can modest and standard kit be made in exactly the same design?
Yes. The same team design is built in men’s/unisex, women’s modest and Muslim women’s hijab-friendly fits, with the same colours and crest.
Will modest kit be too hot for outdoor PE?
Coverage adds fabric, so the fabric has to be light and breathable and the cut slightly looser. We recommend fabrics with UAE conditions in mind, and a sample lets you judge comfort before ordering.
Should modest options be listed separately in the uniform policy?
We suggest listing all options together and describing each garment by what it is. That way every student chooses from one list.
Can students try kit on before parents order?
Yes. Students can try a size set at our Jebel Ali showroom, and sizes can be held so pupils collect kit as they need it through the term.
Do you supply modest swimwear for schools?
Full-coverage swim options can be included in a school range. Tell us what your pool operator requires when you request a quote.
