FAQ: Custom Uniform Manufacturing in the UAE

Custom uniform manufacturing FAQ hero image for UAE uniform buyers

Custom uniform manufacturing means garments are cut, sewn and branded to your organisation’s own specification rather than chosen from a standard range. For procurement and HR teams in the UAE, that raises practical questions well before a purchase order is issued: what to brief, what to approve, who measures the staff and what happens when the team grows.

This FAQ answers the questions buyers raise most often, grouped by the stage of the order they belong to. Uniform Suppliers UAE is the uniform and workforce-identity division of Mustang Advertising Trading LLC, operating since 2007.

Where an answer depends on your fabric, quantity or branding, we explain what drives it instead of quoting a figure that may not apply to you.

What this guide covers

Getting started and briefing

What does custom uniform manufacturing actually include?

It covers garments made to your specification: the style, fabric, colour, trims, size range and branding are decided for your organisation and then produced as one order.

With Mustang the manufacturing sits inside a wider service: a digital logo mock-up, sampling, measurement, in-house embroidery, printing and engraving support, and packing by employee. The custom uniform manufacturing service page sets out the steps, and our uniform manufacturer in the UAE page explains how production and warehouse operations in Dubai support it.

What information should we send to get an accurate quotation?

A quotation is only as precise as the brief behind it. Send as much of the following as you have:

  • Garment types listed by role or department, for example front office, housekeeping, technicians or drivers.
  • Headcount per role, with the split between men’s and women’s garments where the cut differs.
  • Working conditions: indoor air-conditioned, outdoor, kitchen, clinical or mixed.
  • Brand colours, logo artwork and where the logo should sit on each garment.
  • Delivery locations by emirate or GCC country, and the date staff must be in uniform.
  • Whether you need onsite measurement or will supply sizes yourself.

Submit the brief through Request a Quote. When the quotation arrives, our guide to reading a uniform quotation helps you check that every line matches what you asked for.

Is there a minimum order for custom uniforms?

There is no single figure that applies to every garment. It varies by product and branding, and it is confirmed during quotation once we know your requirements.

Three things drive the answer. The first is fabric: a cloth that mills already supply in your colour allows smaller runs than one that must be dyed or woven for you. The second is variety: every extra style, colour or trim splits the order into smaller lots. The third is branding, because some methods carry set-up work that only makes sense across a certain number of pieces.

If your team is small or a role has only a few wearers, branded ready-stock uniforms are often the more practical route for that part of the order.

How is the cost of a custom order worked out?

We do not publish price lists, because a custom garment has no standard price. The quotation reflects the fabric composition and weight, how complex the garment is to construct, the trims, the branding method and number of logo positions, the size spread, and the packing and delivery arrangement you need.

Our article on cost factors in uniform manufacturing explains each of these, so you can see which decisions move the figure and which do not.

Fabric and design

Can you match our brand colours?

Yes. Fabrics and branding are matched to your brand guidelines, and you receive a free digital logo mock-up before production. Send colour references in the system your brand team uses, along with vector logo files.

How closely a fabric can match depends on the route. An existing mill shade may be very near your colour without any special process; an exact corporate shade may need custom dyeing, which affects quantity and timing. Always approve colour on a physical swatch under the lighting your staff work in, never on a screen. Final specification will be confirmed during quotation.

Which fabrics work best for the UAE climate?

The honest answer is that it depends on where the garment is worn. Outdoor roles face heat, humidity and dust. Indoor roles often sit in strong air-conditioning all day. Many staff move between the two, and most uniforms here are laundered frequently.

Mustang gives UAE and GCC climate-ready fabric recommendations for each role. These are advice based on the working conditions you describe, not a performance guarantee. For the reasoning behind fabric weight choices, read our guide to fabric GSM for workwear in the UAE.

Which branding method should we choose?

Mustang provides in-house embroidery, screen printing, heat transfer, sublimation and engraving support. The right method depends on the fabric, the level of detail in the logo, where it sits on the garment and how often the garment is washed.

As a rule, embroidery suits woven shirts, blazers, polos and workwear, while print methods suit large back designs, fine detail and lightweight or performance fabrics. Our embroidery vs printing guide compares them in depth.

Sampling and approval

Do we see our logo on the garment before anything is produced?

Yes. A free digital logo mock-up is prepared before production. It shows the logo’s position, proportions and colours on each garment type.

Treat it as a real approval document. Check spelling, the logo version, placement on every garment and the colour references. A mock-up confirms the look of the branding; it does not replace a physical sample for judging fabric, weight and fit.

Are samples free?

Mustang provides free uniform samples against a confirmed Local Purchase Order (LPO). The sample lets you check fabric, colour, construction and branding before bulk production begins.

If you need to see a garment before an LPO is in place, raise it through Request a Sample and the terms that apply will be confirmed with you. The uniform sampling service page describes the process, and how uniform samples work in the UAE covers what to check when the sample arrives.

What exactly are we approving when we sign off a sample?

You are approving the reference that bulk production will follow: fabric, shade, construction, trims, the fit of the sample size, and the branding method and position. Once signed, it becomes the standard the order is checked against.

Have someone who does the actual job wear it for a shift if you can, and wash it once according to the care label. Record any change in writing and send consolidated feedback from one named approver. Changes are normal at this stage and far easier to make on a sample than on finished stock, but each additional round adds time to the programme.

Sizing and measurement

Will you measure our staff on site?

Mustang offers free onsite individual uniform measurement in the UAE for qualifying company uniform orders. Our team visits your workplace, measures each employee individually and records sizes by name. Whether your order qualifies is confirmed during quotation.

See the onsite measurement service for how the visit is organised, or use Book Onsite Measurement once the scope of your order is agreed.

What if our team is outside the UAE or cannot be measured in person?

Onsite measurement is a UAE service. For teams elsewhere in the GCC, or staff who are on leave or not yet recruited, sizes are normally collected against a size chart, by trying on a set of sample sizes, or by self-measurement following clear instructions.

The size and fit guide and our article on how to measure for a uniform sizing chart explain how to do this reliably. Whichever method you use, collect sizes against employee names, not as a loose tally.

What happens if a garment does not fit?

Garments measured by Mustang are covered by a fit-correction guarantee. If a garment made from our measurements does not fit as intended, it is corrected.

The guarantee does not cover body-size changes after measurement, and it applies to garments we measured rather than to sizes supplied from a client’s own list. The measurement policy sets out the terms.

Production, packing and delivery

How long does custom production take?

Lead time depends on fabric, quantity and branding, so it is quoted per order. The main drivers are whether the fabric is readily available or has to be dyed, how many sampling rounds are needed, how soon the final size breakdown is confirmed, the branding method, and how many different styles the order contains. Seasonal demand also plays a part.

The variable buyers control most is approval speed. An order where the mock-up, sample and size list are signed off without delay by one person moves very differently from one waiting on a committee. Delivery timelines are confirmed during quotation.

Some staff start before the custom order will be ready. What can we do?

Urgent staff can be supplied from ready stock while the custom order is completed. Mustang combines ready-stock garments with custom manufacturing in one programme, so new starters are not left without a uniform during production.

The interim garment will not be identical to the custom one, so agree which roles it covers and how it is branded. Our comparison of ready stock vs custom uniforms explains where each route fits.

How are finished uniforms packed?

Orders can be packed employee by employee, labelled by name, department, branch or location. Each person receives their own set in their own sizes, and each branch receives only its own staff’s packs.

For multi-branch employers this removes the sorting that usually falls on HR. It depends on a clean staff list, so keep names, departments and branch codes consistent with the measurement records.

Do you deliver outside the UAE?

We deliver across the UAE and coordinate delivery and project logistics to the wider GCC. For shipments outside the UAE, the exact delivery time and customs commitments are quoted per project.

The GCC uniform supply page covers cross-border projects and the delivery policy sets out the general terms.

Reorders and records

Do you keep our specification for repeat orders?

Yes. Mustang keeps stored records of approved sizing, fabric, colour, logo position and branding for repeat orders. A reorder refers back to that record instead of starting from a new brief, which keeps later batches consistent with the first.

Fabric shades can vary slightly between dye lots anywhere in the textile industry. Where a close match matters, for example a jacket and trouser worn together, order the related garments in the same batch.

How do new joiners and replacements work after the first delivery?

New joiners are sized against the same specification and their garments are added to your records. Many employers move from one-off orders to a planned programme covering the initial rollout, new-joiner kits, replacements and annual replenishment.

The employee uniform programmes page explains how this is structured.

Can we add badges, ID cards and accessories to the same order?

Yes. Mustang supplies a complete workforce identity package from one supplier: uniforms, safetywear, footwear, name badges, ID cards, lanyards and accessories. Handling them together keeps names, job titles and branding consistent across everything a new employee receives.

Garment ranges are listed by sector under corporate uniforms and the other product categories.

Custom manufacturing vs ready stock: which questions each answers

Many of the questions above have a different answer depending on the supply route. This table shows which route responds to which buyer need.

Buyer questionCustom manufacturingReady stock
Do we need a colour, fabric or cut specific to our brand?Yes: the garment is specified for youLimited to the colours and styles in the range
Do staff start before a production run would finish? Not on its ownSuited to urgent starters
Is the team small, or does a role have few wearers?May not be practical for every styleUsually the practical route
Must every branch look identical year after year? The approved specification is recorded and repeatedDepends on the range continuing unchanged
Do we need extended sizes or a modest, looser cut?Patterns can be adjustedLimited to the standard size run
Is our logo the only customisation we need?More than the brief requiresStandard garment with embroidery or print
Do we need both a distinct look and immediate cover?Combined programme: custom for the core uniformCombined programme: ready stock for urgent staff

Mustang recommendation: settle three things before asking for a custom quotation: who will approve on your side, the date staff must be in uniform, and the headcount by role. With those fixed, the fabric, sampling and measurement decisions fall into a sensible order. For a fuller walk-through of the process, read our custom uniform manufacturing guide for the UAE.

  • List garments by role, with headcount for each.
  • Gather brand colour references and vector logo files.
  • Describe the working conditions for every role.
  • Name one approver for the mock-up, sample and size list.
  • Decide whether you need onsite measurement in the UAE.
  • Identify any staff who need uniforms before production finishes.
  • Prepare a staff list with names, departments and branches for packing.
